The Rigesa Packaging Plant in Feira de Santana is officially inaugurated - May 18, 2006 - 12:15:00 PM

The Rigesa Corrugated Paper Packaging Plant in Feira de Santana, State of Bahia, was officially inaugurated. The plant is the fifth of its kind in Brazil and the second in the Northeastern region. The inauguration ceremony took place on the plant site, and had as special guests the Bahia State Governor Mr. Paulo Ganem Souto; the Mayor of Feira de Santana Mr. José Ronaldo de Carvalho; the MeadWestvaco President Mr. James A. Buzzard; the President of the MeadWestvaco Packaging Resource Group, Mr. Robert A. Feeser; the Rigesa President Mr. Paulo Tilkian, and a number of local and state authorities, Rigesa partners, customers and employees.
The new Rigesa plant is in operation since August 20, 2004, with investments of approximately USD 18 million. Currently, the project yields 150 direct and indirect jobs. The plant is strategically located to meet the needs of the Rigesa customers in the Northeastern region o Brazil. It features a state of the art corrugated paper packaging production line and a team of top professionals, and with an estimated production capacity of 50 million square meters of corrugated paper packaging per year.
¿This plant represents a key investment for Rigesa and was built in a record period, using high technology. It also shows our standing commitment with Brazil, which started over 60 years ago. Throughout all these years, Rigesa built its reputation as a strong brand in the Brazilian corrugated paper packaging market¿, were the words of Paulo Tilkian in his speech during the inauguration ceremony.
True to its philosophy of involvement in the communities around the areas where it operates, Rigesa offered to all guests balls and T-shirts acquired from the Fundação de Apoio ao Menor de Feira de Santana ("FAMFS"), an NGO based in the city of Feira de Santana, Bahia, to provide support to underprivileged teenagers in the area. The gifts were produced by "at risk" children and teenagers living in the area.
