RIGESA PROMOTES ITS 5TH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION SEMINAR - Apr 5, 2005 - 12:16:00 PM

Throughout June Rigesa will promote at all its sites (Valinhos, SP; Manaus, AM; Blumenau and Três Barras, SC; Pacajus, CE, and Feira de Santana, BA), its 5th Rigesa Environmental Education Seminar" for more than 500 4th and 5th grader teachers in the public and private education system. As suggested by teachers who attended the last seminar, this year's topic will be ¿Education for Sustainable Development¿. The activities in the seminar will be conducted by the team of the organization Associação Super Eco de Integração Ambiental e de Desenvolvimento da Criança and by Sociedade de Pesquisa em Vida Selvagem e Educação Ambiental ("SPVS"), both of them NGOs focused on Environmental Education. The attending teachers received a kit with materials to help them to develop Environmental Education projects. This year they will also receive materials in connection with projects sponsored by Rigesa such as the book As cores do Desenvolvimento by Patrícia Secco, and the kits O Meio Ambiente e a História da Arte, developed by the Instituto Ação Cultural, illustrated by renowned Brazilian artists. The materials will help children interpret and appreciate artistic depictions in a fun and playful manner. Since the beginning of the year the enrolled schools have been receiving on a monthly basis the Jornal de Educação Ambiental by Rigesa Rigevida, as supporting material for student activities. Currently, 23 thousand students in cities where Rigesa has manufacturing sites are benefited by the materials every month Also on June 3 at 8 AM the International Environmental Day will be celebrated simultaneously at all Rigesa manufacturing sites. The event will be declared open upon the hoisting of the Brazilian flag and of the town flag. The event is part of the environmental education activities developed by the company to create awareness and instill environmental values in Rigesa's employees and in the communities around its plant sites. Some figures: 1,515 teachers trained since 2001; 400 participating schools; 25 thousand students receive the Rigevida publication on a monthly basis; 2,270 employees receiving Rigevida on a monthly basis; 82 thousand children¿s books are distributed to schools and employee children. 2 thousand kits O Meio Ambiente e a História da Arte, distributed to schools and to employee children.
