Rigesa obtains License for Manufacture of Packaging for Direct Contact with Food - Aug 15, 2008 - 3:13:00 PM
The Consumer Packing Plant in Valinhos has just received, from the Health Surveillance agency, its Operating License for the Manufacture of Packaging for Direct Contact with Food. The initial move to obtain the license was made in April 2007 with the preparation of the facilities upgrade project and the implementation of the Good Manufacturing Practices program, and also the amendment of legal records with agencies such as the Treasury and the Valinhos City Council. According to Sanzia Holanda, the plant¿s Quality Control and Environment Coordinator, and who is in charge of the licensing process, the project¿s biggest challenge was to comply with the requirements of RDC resolution 275 of 2002, which applies to the food industry, while observing the peculiarities of a packaging company which, despite being a part of the food distribution chain, cannot be considered as a foods industry, though it still has to comply with the same legal requirements of that segment, which are none too few. Before obtaining the license, Rigesa had been producing Ovenable packaging with a Product Use Authorization (AUP) from the Ministry of Agriculture. As for the Pressed Tray, this went into production recently, and complies with the requirements of the Health Surveillance agency. About Ovenable and Pressed Tray Packaging Ovenable and Pressed Tray packs are specific to ready-to-eat meals because they enable a product to go directly from the freezer to the oven, either conventional or microwave, without any modification to their original characteristics. They are used for ready meals by those who are looking for practicality and state-of-the-art technology. With the conservation of ready meals, they minimize problems with contamination from fungi and bacteria and prevent the absorption of humidity by the edges of the paperboard and, at the same time, they are resistant to the heating up of the product. They are offset printed in up to 7 colors plus varnish. The main difference between them is in the process of sealing and the molding of the trays.
