Rigesa is awarded Chain of Custody certificate by the Brazilian Forest Certification Program (CERFLO - Apr 15, 2009 - 11:20:00 AM

Rigesa¿s Corrugated Box Plants have received Chain of Custody certification following an audit conducted in February 2009 and the recommendation of the BVC -Bureau Veritas Certification.
Consequently, the packaging manufactured by Rigesa now meets the requirements of NBR standard 14790:2007 ¿ Chain of Custody Certification by the Brazilian Forest Certification Program - CERFLOR, developed and managed by INMETRO. Since 2005, CERFLOR has been recognized by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC), the largest forest certification system in the world, covering around 204 million hectares in 32 countries. This certification adds to the Chain of Custody Certifications at the Paper plants in Valinhos and Três Barras.
The work performed to obtain the certificate included the active participation of teams from the Quality Areas in the Corrugated Paperboard and Paper Packaging plants and also the Forestry Division.
The certification obtained by Rigesa has a differentiating feature: the multisite structure for the chain of custody. In other words, the company will have one unique certification which is valid for all its plants in the Corrugated Paperboard Division. This multisite system certifies that at least 70% of all the paper consumed in the production of Rigesa¿s packaging contains material of certified forestry and/or certified recycled origin. Thus Rigesa¿s customers have a guarantee of the traceability of the raw materials, originating from certified forestry and/or certified recycled stewardship, in all the stages of the transformation of the product right up to the end consumer.
Chain of custody is the process of tracking and recording the possession and transfer of wood fiber from the forest of origin, through manufacture, production and processing stages and, ultimately, to its end use. These certifications help consumers identify those products that meet their environmental demands, and provide trusted third-party validation of the company¿s sustainable business practices.
With this achievement, Rigesa is reasserting its total commitment to the sustainability of its products, from the beginning of the manufacturing process to the end.
